Should I use a pond net cover in autumn and winter?

Pond covers are square or rectangular nets that you secure about the edges of your pond. Used during the year they are a good way to protect small to medium sized fish from herons.

Pond net covers are an excellent way to prevent leaves and other debris from falling into your pond. They prevent unwanted organic waste from ending up on the bottom of your pond.

You can install the net over your pond before the leaves start to fall in autumn, and either remove it again once the trees are bare or in the spring.

Installing a pond net cover at any time of the year gives fish  additional protection from predators such as herons. But this can be particularly important during the winter, when pond plants die back reducing natural cover.

Pond net covers are available in a variety of sizes. Always buy one a bit  larger than your pond to provide enough material to secure it around the edges.
