Should I clean my pond before winter?

Late winter or early spring is the best time to completely drain down your pond for a thorough clean. However before winter arrives it is handy to have a pond skimmer to harvest falling leaves, and a pond vac to remove excess waste from the bottom of your pond.

Removing leaves from the surface of your pond during autumn is good practice. You can scoop them out by hand using a long handled net and/or by installing a pond skimmer.

Removing decaying waste from your pond will help maintain good water quality during the winter period. This is important for the well-being of your fish and greatly reduces the chance of stress and disease.
