The Oase Bitron Eco 240W is a particularly energy-efficient UV clarifier for large koi ponds and swim ponds.
This premium quality UV filter has low running costs that can save you up to 50% on your electricity bills compared to UVs of similar wattage. The Bitron Eco range is an eco-friendly and financially astute choice for larger ponds, considering operation will be 24/7 and 365 days of the year. The Bitron Eco 240W is suitable for natural ponds to 240mยณ, goldfish ponds to 120mยณ and koi ponds to 60mยณ.
As with all UV clarifiers, pond water is passed through and exposed to ultraviolet light (UV) which kills unicellular algae that cause green water. UV is also an effective means of sterilization, killing disease-causing bacteria and viruses, which is highly beneficial to the health and well-being of your fish.
Unlike most UVs however, the Eco models are not permanently ‘ON’. Instead, the maximum operating time may be reduced from 100% to 90%, 75%, or 50% to suit the time of year and condition of your pond. The operation times are further reduced (automatically) in increments, according to water temperature (down to just 14% of the day in winter). This ingenious design not only saves electricity but also improves the lifespan of UV bulbs from around 8,000 hours of operation to 12,000. The LED control unit shows the current status of UV bulb, water temperature, and allows manual selection of the operation mode.
Like all Oase Bitrons, the Eco’s have self-cleaning rotors that prevent dirt deposits on the quartz sleeve, ensuring maximum UV light penetration into your pond water.
UV clarifiers should be used in conjunction with a filter that will physically remove dead algae from pond water. This is important to reduce organic load to prevent future algal blooms, and to remove suspended solids that can block UV rays and hinder efficiency.
The Oase Bitron Eco 240W connects directly to the BioTec 30, BioTec ScreenMatic 140000, and ProfiClear Drum filters. However, it may be used in conjunction with any filter system.
