Frequently asked questions
Pond pumps move water from one place to another. They can be used to feed water to pond filters, waterfalls, fountains and streams.
When choosing a pump be sure to select the correct type of pump for your needs and the right flow rate. If you are not sure what type of pump you need we’re always on hand to help.
Pumps are made to perform best in specific situations. Before choosing a pump model, first decide what your pump will be used for. Is it for a pond filter? Or perhaps it is for a fountain or a waterfall? Once you have decided, you can shop for this particular type of pump.
The ‘flow rate’ of a pump is how much water it can move over time, typically measured in litres per hour.
It can be tricky to select the correct flow rate for your needs. Pairing a filter pump to a pond filter is easy, as they always have a specific flow rate requirement. However choosing the correct flow rate for a waterfall is harder.
Some pumps allow you to control the flow rate while others have just one flow rate. If you need assistance working out the flow rate you need don’t hesitate to get on touch!
The ‘head height’ of a pond pump is the maximum distance it can pump water above itself. The head height of a pump is an important consideration for feeding water to a waterfall or to pond filters located well above the level of your pond.
